Charmey

Now there are a lot of families that might be put off by a weekend of hiking in the rain and snow. Fortunately for me, this isnt one of them. So Teri pointed the compass in the direction of Charmey, Switzerland. "With a name like Charmey - you guys are going to love it!"

No problem. We packed up the car with the canoe on top and headed for Charming. Oh wait - thats the boys. Or the wife! This website stuff is hard.

First stop - Lac Gruyere, where there is a medieval ruin on an island in the middle of the lake.

Not a problem for us, of course.

Turns out that the organized locals have even built nice metal steps into the ruins so that people can climb to the top.

Which provides a pretty sweet view. And the scenery is pretty good too.

The rest of the island is pretty good for exploring as well.  Especially with your brother.

Even time for another family photo. Contender for the always treasured Read Family holiday card, for sure!

But then its time to head for shore, because we have big plans the next day!

Because we had some hiking to do. Remarkably - this is not snow - its accumulated frost as this is the dark side of the hill.

Quite lovely up close.

We made it up to the top and watch the parasailors launch themselves back down into the valley while we had lunch. Sweet indeed. Read Family holiday shot? Nah - not with Mr Funny Face!
