Not only does Lyell love it - but he has put in the time to figure out how the engine works so that he can start it himself (cold or warm) and of course operate it in any condition.

It guarantees that there is always a driver whenever the mama needs to be shuttled to shore - and not the father who has so many important duties to attend to on board.  Not the least of which is rum drinks.  Testing them, that is.  Er - I mean checking the bilge.  Did I mistakenly say rum drinks?
