And autumn is prime time for visiting the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC) mountain huts.

We had tried before to go to Doldenhornhutte, but it got too late for us to make it, so we were determined to come back and check it out.

But this is what a trip to a hut should really be. It doesnt need to be a rush or a marathon. Just a chance to get out and enjoy nature a little bit.

Of course some in the family take that a little more seriously than others.

But eventually, we get the packs back on and head up the trail.

Which is worthwhile. This is the view from the terrace at the hut.

They made us a lovely dinner, and we were off again the next morning. Lyell wanted to take the mountaineers route down, but we stayed together, saving the big adventure for another day.

And all too soon - we were back at the bottom of the trail, knowing that we would soon be back up to visit another hut!
