First stop, Iraklia. It is kind of hard to imagine that little harbors like this, which you can have virtually to yourself, still even exist.
But we anchored out closer to the ferry terminal, because we had troubles with our outboard, and the (delightful!!) charter company had messaged us that they would put a new outboard onto the night ferry. So we tucked in, and at about 1:30 in the morning, this was the sight we witnessed probably 75 feet from the stern of our (very tiny feeling at that point!) sailboat.
But I managed to scramble aboard the ferry, grab the motor off the deck, and run off just as she was throttling up. So but the time the next ferry arrived the next morning (yes, it really is really close), we were all ready to go.
And around the island we went, for another adventure. Tying stern-to in a rocky inlet. The boys set the stern rope while TT and I set the anchor. They really look like they know what they are doing, dont they?
A quick dinghy ride into the inlet, and we found a beach...
Some ancient ruins...yes that little red spot...the only one on the beach is our dinghy...the only one there.
And a cave!
And if that werent enough of a day of exploring - how about a swim back to the boat?!
Its a busy life out there. |
