Warning continues! More art shots!
Here we have moved on to Edfu Temple. Admittedly, we should have a live person in this photo so you could see how huge these carvings really are.
And how tall these columns really are.
But that wouldnt be as artsy as we have it here - or this view of hieroglyphics below. However with the photo below we make a theme transition. This starts the graffiti portion of our program. Notice the faces missing on the people on the righthand side?
Or the entire bodies missing on these folks?
Or these visages?
And whats *this* doing on an Egyptian temple? The answer is that New Yorkers didnt invent graffiti. Its been around for thousands of years as a way of remarking something as your own. Or something like that. But heres the question. How old does graffiti have to be before it turns into a legitimate part of history?
Anyway - another point of interest here is Lyell's foot. No - its the dovetailing joint where the Egyptian builder put wood between the rock blocks to keep them aligned.
Just imagine what those people could have done with a good box of Lego. |
