And just when you think that theres no more to Greece, we are back in the car, back onto the ferry, and then headed north to Meteora. I had never heard of Meterora before, but TT assured me that I would need a good breakfast, so I had a yogurt with honey that was basically more like ice cream.
Which was a good idea. Because Meteora is unlike any place on the planet. Huge rock spires with monestaries at the top. Wow.
So, off we went, over stairs and bridges. Lots of stairs and bridges....
Up to the top, where you just have to do a family photo. This one was a contender for the soon to be famous Read Family holiday card.
Its not the kind of place that needs a lot of narration. But guys, dont take another step back, OK?
One of the monestaries was set up with a cannon. Now heres my question. When youre a monk perched 1000 feet above the ground on a sheer cliff - what on earth do you need a cannon for?
We also took a little time to feel a little bit of serenity.
Of course some of us are more serene than others.
And the rest of us will be...forever tourists. Dont pull a pinkie!
The monks - or in this case the nuns - apparently have plenty of time stranded atop these perches to do things like gardening...
And woodworking. And if you look closely - apparently also ladder building.
No matter where you go though - its either a ladder or a bridge.
View from the nunnery. Artsy view from the nunnery, that is.
The stop brought smiles to all the sheiks in the family.
Even those that could use a little more cranial coverage...
