Rainier

Having been to the top 6 or so years ago, Andy and Stuart decided to make another run at Mt. Rainier.  As we did last time, we felt a little silly hitting the trail in full climbing regalia while other day hikers were in flip-flops and t-shirts.

But as we ascended, we were happy to have all our gear - and we looked a little more in place.

We initially pitched our tent at Camp Muir, but moved into this stone hut at about 9:30pm when the wind really began to pick up.  At about midnight, when we were planning to begin our summit attempt, the wind was blowing so hard that it shook the hut.  We didn't even bother to go outside.

This is the ranger station at Camp Muir.  We now know why it is attached to the mountainside with cables...

No complaints, though.  It was a beautiful hike.  We saw marmots, birds and this little fox out looking for food.

The mountain flowers were also out in full bloom which provided a great deal of color.

Who knows - perhaps we will try again next year for the summit.  Definitely for the hike.
