Vernazza in May

For the long weekend in May, TT found us a terrific apartment, overlooking the square in the town of Vernazza.  If you look closely, you will spot me (in the white tshirt) and Mason (in the blue tshirt) playing frisbee.  What could be more ideal?

Well - maybe digging in the sand.  When youve been away from the sand for the whole winter, its important to become reacquainted.

Same for gelato.  It doesnt sound so fantastic after a day on the slopes in the Alps.   But after the hot trail from Vernazza to RioMaggiore?  Mmmm.

The real highlight for us, however, is Treasure Beach.  Named as such both because it seems to attract all the flotsam and jetsam from the northern Mediterranean, and because its hard to get to, so not many people comb through it.  But we are hardier.  Or perhaps foolhardier.  Its a fine line.  Anyway - we waded along the rocks to get to Treasure Beach.

And we were not disappointed.  First off - eyeball rock.

And bigger than that - Mason is wearing what he and I found on a walk along the beach.  The towel is ours.  The rope and the fishing net?  :-)

Yup - its a Treasure.

But then again so is the whole Cinque Terra.  Here we are back on the beach in Vernazza.  Those looks you see are the looks we get when we tell the boys its time to go.  Yeah - right mom and dad.  Just one more sand castle....
