The first thing we do when we get there is we take the train to the top of the mountain. Its a pretty ideal place for a few photos. And also a pretty ideal place to start building cairns. Here Nathan and Lyell select the optimal materials.
Mason lives up to his name, carving just the right additions. As a matter of fact - he is working so hard he doesnt even notice that Arn has snuck some Toblerones on top of our cairn to attract the kids for a photo.
The ploy worked, and just a split second before the chocolate was gone, we managed to get this shot.
From there - we walked all the way back down to the village. Its a long way. 18km, I think. But there are some good views along the way that make it worthwhile.
And when the going gets tough - you can grab hold of your sister's hand for a little encouragement.
And if you've offered too much of your encouragement to your brother, you can later get a ride from dad. Wait - what about me?
And then before we knew it - we were back in town. But with the familiar sight of bagpipes replaced with the soon-to-be familiar sight of alpenhorns. "The hills are alive...."
Zermatt - you've been very very good to us - we are definitely looking forward to coming back!
